Markets Go Nuts For MRNA

2026/10/23

I have been long infuriated by financial headlines and the increasingly irrational behavior of the markets.

How many times have we seen this: Company A lays off 2000 people, then their stock goes up. Let’s celebrate people losing their jobs! Repeat this for several other companies. Later on, it is announced that unemployment is up and the markets drop. Make up your mind!

And so many headlines try to pretend to know why things happen. I was thinking that I could write a program to pick a random stock, see if it is going up or down, and then select a random world event, and put it together like so: $STOCK (rises|falls) due to $EVENT. Who needs an AI? A couple dozen lines of code could do the trick.

But the latest one that has me fuming: Moderna stock crashes as leaked melanoma data…. I go and look at what got leaked: their cancer “vaccine” is 42% effective. How is this not cause for celebration? What cancer patient wouldn’t want to be told that rather than certain death, they have a 42% chance of stopping their cancer? Are people so ignorant of science and math that they think anything less than 100% is a failure? But then I look at the comments to the aforementioned article and I realize the world is full of morons who not only don’t understand science, but are openly in defiance of it. There are many comments about how flu vaccines don’t work because people still get the flu, how mRNA vaccines cause cancer (turbo-cancer according to one person), conspiracies about Fauci and/or Bill Gates, how avoiding junk food, seed oils, etc will prevent all cancer, etc. These are all too stupid to even warrant answering; however one of the comments made me laugh: “The last time we had a cancer vaccine, most of the planet either died or turned into vampire/zombies, and the fraction of survivors had to live in isolated colonies until Will Smith, taking on the responsibility as a virologist, had to save us all.”
